Garrett Lane Named NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Month

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University freshman men's tennis player Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) has been named Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Month, the league office today announced. Lane went an undefeated 7-0 during February, winning all four of his singles matches and three consecutive doubles matches. Lane led the Bobcats to a 3-1 record for the month.

Lane defeated Tytus Stempniewicz (Hofstra) and Bill Krings (Boston Univ.) in straight sets, and showed stamina in taking down Jonathan Brenner (Bucknell) and Dylan Whiting (Bryant) in three-set affairs. Lane's stamina was also on display in doubles, as the freshman paired with senior Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) to earn three wins by margins of 9-8, 8-7, and 8-6.

The duo began the stretch with a 9-8 decision against Hofstra's Nenad Radakovic and Matt Wacks at No. 2 doubles. They then outlasted Boston University's Regis Chang and James Bernstein, 8-6, before taking down Bryant's Jose Rodriguez and Nicholai Hill, 8-7, both at No. 3 doubles. For the season, Lane is 21-8, including an 8-3 singles record and a 13-5 mark in doubles.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to the University of Hartford. Matches are set to begin at 11 a.m.
