EMMITSBURG, Md. All six Quinnipiac University men's tennis players in the line-up earned double wins as the Bobcats swept Mount St. Mary's, 7-0, in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-2 (1-0 NEC), while the Mountaineers fall to 1-10 (0-1 NEC).
John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.), Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) and Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) all won twice for the Bobcats.
Mikkelson paired with Kwei to defeat Favio Osorio and Patrick Plastow, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, before beating Plastow, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Kwei defeated Sam Walton, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
Hughes combined with Feldman to take care of Walton and Thad Mostowtt, 8-2, before beating Osorio, 6-2, 6-1, in the top singles flight. Feldman made quick work of Jastin Mostowtt, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
Lane and Curran took an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Jastin Mostowtt and Reilly Gates. Lane then defeated Thad Mostowtt, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, while Curran beat Gates, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
The Bobcats return to action, Wednesday, March 25, when they travel to intrastate foe Fairfield. Matches are set to begin 3 p.m.
