Men's Tennis Sweeps Lafayette, 7-0

EASTON, Pa. – Five Bobcats earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team swept Lafayette, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) each won at both singles and doubles for the Bobcats, who improved to 6-3 on the season. The Leopards fell to 4-6.

Hughes paired with Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) to defeat Doug Gallagher and Kyle MacLelland, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, before beating Eric Wiley, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

Mikkelson and Kwei beat Justin Haar and Lee Kojanis, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Mikkelson then made quick work of Gallagher, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Kwei got past Steven Benezra, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.

Lane and Curran took care of James Murphy and Andrew Morris, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Lane then defeated Haar, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Curran beat Kojanis, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, when they travel to Storrs, Conn., to take on intrastate foe Connecticut. Matches are set to begin at 3 p.m.
