NCAA Lane: Day 3
The big day: Q vs. #7 Stanford. We woke up ready to give it our all and hopefully get more games than Nick's prediction: 8 games. At breakfast, we all ate at Hobee's - still can't get a simple breakfast but oh well. I could sense the level of focus of my teammates as we traveled to the tennis center. There was more fire in all of our eyes; ready to make some noise in the national spotlight.

NCAA Lane: Day 2
After catching up on the lack of sleep from Thursday's travels, the team managed to get everyone on the bus without somebody forgetting to set their alarm. At breakfast, it seemed difficult to find a meal on the menu that was traditional (eggs, pancakes, bacon). We all looked at the menu with a confused look trying to find something that seemed appetizing...oh well, I guess Californians are too good to go with the simple breakfast.

Men's Tennis Falls To No. 7 Stanford, 4-0, In NCAA Tournament First Round
Led by six singles points by James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and four more by John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team tallied a program-record 24 game victories, but fell to No. 7 Stanford, 4-0, in the NCAA Tournament First Round Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The 24 game victories are the most by a Northeast Conference team in the NCAA Tournament in the last seven years, the furthest back complete records are available.

Sophomore men's tennis player Garrett Lane will provide daily updates of the Bobcats' NCAA Tournament trip to Stanford, California. -- Despite an early flight and departure from school Thursday, most of us opted to not sleep before we all left for JFK airport. Upon boarding the shuttle bus at 3 a.m., the bus immediately fell silent as we all tried to get as much sleep as possible. By 6, we were checked in and anxiously waiting to board our plane.

Men's Tennis Learns NCAA Opponent, Destination Tonight
The 2010 Northeast Conference Champion Quinnipiac University men's tennis team will learn its NCAA Tournament opponent and destination this evening between 5-6 p.m., when the pairings are unveiled on ESPNews. The third-seeded Bobcats earned the NEC Championship by defeating a pair of teams that had defeated them in the regular season. QU edged second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, in the semifinals, before outlasting top-seeded Sacred Heart, 4-3, in the finals.

Men's Tennis Draws No. 8 Stanford In NCAA Tournament First Round
The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team has drawn nationally-ranked No. 8 Stanford University in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The pairings were announced this evening on ESPNews. The Bobcats and Cardinal will meet for the second time in as many NCAA appearances for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats also traveled to Palo Alto in 2006, their last trip to the NCAA's. The first-round match is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, at a time to be determined. Hawaii and Pepperdine join the Bobcats and Cardinal in the Stanford Regional.

Quitko Earns Seventh NEC Coach of the Year; Six Bobcats Earn All-NEC
Quinnipiac University Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach Michael Quitko has been named the 2010 Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, the league office today announced. Six of Quitko's players were also named All-NEC. John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) were named to the All-NEC First Team in singles at No. 2 and 5, respectively, while Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) took second-team honors at No. 4 and 6 singles. Kwei and Hughes also contributed to all-conference doubles teams. Kwei paired with Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) to earn First-Team All-NEC at No. 1 for the second straight year, while Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) joined Hughes in taking second team at No. 2.

Men's Tennis Wins Fourth NEC Championship With 4-3 Victory Over No. 1 Sacred Heart
Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) won the final two sets of his No. 6 singles match to clinch the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team's fourth #$%^Northeast Conference Championship in the last seven years. The third-seeded Bobcats won four of six singles flights to come from behind for the 4-3 #$%^victory over top-seeded Sacred Heart after dropping the doubles point. John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and James #$%^Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) also earned singles victories.

Men's Tennis Outlasts FDU In NEC Semifinals, 4-3
John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) was a double winner and clinched the match with a three-set victory over Peter Skvarka at No. 2 singles as the No. 3 Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Mercer County Tennis Center. With the win, the Bobcats (9-4) advance to the NEC Championship Match for the fifth time in the last seven years, in search of their fourth title. They'll face intrastate NEC rival Sacred Heart tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. The win also avenges a 4-1 regular-season loss to the Knights on March 31.

Men's Tennis Beats Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, In NEC Quarterfinals
Eight different Bobcats earned a win as the third-seeded Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated No. 6 Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, in Friday afternoon's NEC Tournament Quarterfinals at Mercer County Tennis Center. With the win, the Bobcats (8-4) move on to face second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson in tomorrow's NEC Semifinals. Matches are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

Men's and Women's Tennis Take Third Seeds In NEC Tournament
The Quinnipiac University men's and women's tennis teams are both the third seeds in this weekend's Northeast Conference Tournament, the league office has announced. The tournament will be played Friday through Sunday at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. The women's team looks to recapture the NEC Championships and the accompanying NCAA Tournament berth for the sixth time in seven years, while the Bobcats men look to secure their fourth title in seven years.

Senior John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) battled to a 7-6, 7-5, victory at No. 1 singles, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by Stony Brook, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats conclude the regular season at 7-4. They'll open NEC Tournament action Friday against sixth-seeded Saint Francis (Pa.) at the Mercer County (N.J.) Tennis Center at 2 p.m.

Senior Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) won at No. 5 singles and senior John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) earned a doubles victory at No. 2, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon. The top two singles matches were suspended due to darkness. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 6-2 (2-1 NEC), while the Knights improve to 5-10 (1-0 NEC).

John Hughes Named NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Senior John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career, the league office today announced. Hughes went 5-3 on the week, including a 3-1 mark in singles. He went 3-0 out of his customary No. 2 singles position, and took his only loss of the week while playing up to No. 1 at nationally-ranked No. 61 Harvard.

Senior John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team won its second Northeast Conference match in as many days with a 5-2 victory over Bryant, Sunday afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Complex. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 6-1 (2-0 NEC), while the Bulldogs fall to 6-8 (0-2 NEC).

Freshman Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) earned a three-set victory, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team fell to Harvard, 6-1, Friday night at the Murr Center Tennis Courts. The loss was the first of the Bobcats' season, dropping Quinnipiac to 4-1 on the season.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 4-0, while the Wildcats fell to 2-12.

Quinnipiac University freshmen men's tennis player Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, the league office today announced. The award is the third of the season for Weeden, in addition to an NEC Player of the Week award in November. Weeden was a double winner as the Bobcats swept Holy Cross on Sunday.

John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.), Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) all earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated Holy Cross, 7-0, Sunday afternoon on the Quinnipiac Indoor Tennis Courts. Four freshmen started in the singles line-up for Quinnipiac. All four were victorious, with Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and Justin Gerstl (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) picking up their first career dual-match singles wins. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-0 on the season, while Holy Cross falls to 2-6.

Men's Tennis Picked Second In NEC Preseason Poll
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Northeast Conference's men's tennis coaches have picked Quinnipiac to finish second in the league, the conference office today announced. The Bobcats, which advanced to the NEC Tournament Semifinals a year ago, earned three first-place votes. Defending champion Sacred Heart took five first-place votes and the top spot in the poll, while perennial NEC power Fairleigh Dickinson took the final first-place vote and the third position.

Weeden began the day with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-5, victory against Fairfield's Dan Sauter, before outlasting teammate Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.), 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, in the quarterfinals. Weeden will face Yale's Erik Blumenkranz in tomorrow's semifinals.

Quinnipiac's James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology's Calle Lundquist in the opening round of the ITA Northeast Regional Qualifying Thursday at Dartmouth, but fell to Marist's Matt Himmelsbach in the second round. A win against the second-seeded Himmelsbach would've pushed Kwei into tomorrow's main draw.

Men's Tennis Breezes Past UConn, 6-1
Quinnipiac's Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.), James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) all earned double wins as the Bobcats men's tennis team breezed past the University of Connecticut, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon. All but the end of the No. 6 singles match was contested on the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts, and following the Bobcats' clinching of the match, the remainder of the final match was completed indoors. With the win, the Bobcats (1-0) hand the Huskies (3-1) their first loss of the season.

Junior Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) and sophomore James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) paired to earn the Flight 'A' Doubles Championship as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team found continued success on Day 2 at the UConn Invitational Saturday. In addition to his victories with Mikkelson, Kwei advanced to the Flight 'B' Singles Championship, where he'll face freshman teammate Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.). Senior Charlie Feldman (Easton, Conn.) is also still alive in the Flight 'C' Singles, having reached the semifinals.

Brian Mikkelson Leads Men's Tennis With Three Wins At UConn Invitational
Junior Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) earned three wins to the lead the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team on Day 1 at the UConn Invitational. Mikkelson paired with James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) to win twice in the top doubles flight, while also winning once in the top singles flight. Freshman Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) also earned his first career singles win.
