STORRS, Conn. - Junior Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) earned three wins to the lead the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team on Day 1 at the UConn Invitational. Mikkelson paired with James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) to win twice in the top doubles flight, while also winning once in the top singles flight. Freshman Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) also earned his first career singles win.
In "A" singles, Mikkelson made quick work of Hartford's Marco Neves, taking a 6-0, 6-2. Teaming with Kwei, Mikkelson also earned wins in "A" doubles against Bryant's Christian Balestrieri and Juan-Martin Paredes, 8-4, as well as Hartford's Neves and Josh Isaacson, 8-2.
Weeden outlasted Bucknell's Kelly Morque in "B" singles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7, to earn his first collegiate singles win.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Sept. 25, when they take part in the UConn Invitational. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
