Men's Tennis Draws No. 8 Stanford In NCAA Tournament First Round

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team has drawn nationally-ranked No. 8 Stanford University in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The pairings were announced this evening on ESPNews. The Bobcats and Cardinal will meet for the second time in as many NCAA appearances for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats also traveled to Palo Alto in 2006, their last trip to the NCAA's. The first-round match is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, at a time to be determined. Hawaii and Pepperdine join the Bobcats and Cardinal in the Stanford Regional.

"It's always an honor to play at Stanford because of their history," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Mike Quitko. "I think the boys wanted to go to California, and I'm sure they'll put their best foot forward."

Making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Bobcats faced Harvard in 2004, Illinois in 2005, and Stanford in 2006. Following a three-year absence, all 10 players on the Quinnipiac roster will be making their NCAA Tournament debut this year.

Quinnipiac earned the NCAA Tournament berth with an improbable run through the Northeast Conference Tournament. The third-seeded Bobcats defeated No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson in the semifinals and No. 1 Sacred Heart in the championship match, both by a score of 4-3, after falling to both teams in the regular season.
