Two QU Duos Advance To Quinnipiac Invitational Top Flight Doubles SemifinalsHAMDEN, Conn. - The top two Quinnipiac men's tennis doubles tandems of James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.), and Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) and Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) won two matches each to advance to the Quinnipiac Invitational Flight A Doubles Semifinals. However, both duos were defeated in the semifinals.
Kwei and Lazerowich defeated Villanova's Matt Colonnese and Kyle Grandin, 8-5, in the first round, before getting past Fairfield's Dan Sauter and Erik Kremheller, 9-7, in the quarterfinals. The duo was then defeated by UConn's Andrew Marcus and Scott Warden, 8-6, in the semifinals.
Mikkelson and Weeden defeated St. Peter's College's Luccas Coutinho and Chris Frakes, 8-5, in the first round, before taking care of UConn's Dave Adams and Ryan Carr, 8-6, in the quarterfinals. Mikkelson and Weeden were defeated by Villanova's Trenton Alenik and Thomas O'Brien, 8-2, in the semifinals.
After falling in the opening round of Flight B, the Quinnipiac duos of Brett Francis (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), and Ben Shapiro (Katonah, N.Y.) and Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) both won a consolation match. Francis and Morgenstern defeated Hartford's Joel de los Santos and Conner Masciotra, 8-5, while Shapiro and Kraus got past Hartford's Edgardo Ureta and Filip Miletic, 8-3.
Quinnipiac Invitational action continues tomorrow with singles play set to commence at 9 a.m.
