Andrew Weeden Named NEC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Weeden breezed through ITA Northeast Regional Qualifying with a pair of straight-sets victories against Stony Brook's Francesco Arciuli (6-1, 6-2) and Marist's Joris Van Eck (6-2, 6-3), before defeating Hofstra's Antonio Pena, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, in the main draw first round. Weeden's run ended with a 6-1, 6-2, defeat to Harvard's Christo Schultz, the No. 14 ranked player in the draw.
Weeden is the first Quinnipiac player in school history to advance through qualifying to the main draw at the event. He advanced as far as any player from the Northeast Conference, with FDU's Ibrahim Shams being the only other player from an NEC school to reach the second round, doing so by way of a bye.
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Storrs, Conn., to face the University of Connecticut. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
