Men's Tennis Edged At UConn, 4-3STORRS, Conn. - James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) was a double winner, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was edged by intrastate rival Connecticut, 4-3, to open the dual-match portion of the 2010-11 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Bobcats to 0-1, while the Huskies improve to 3-0.
The Bobcats took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3, but the Huskies responded with wins in four of six singles flights to clinch the match victory.
Kwei paired with Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) to defeat Wei Lin and Ryan Carr, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles, before edging Scott Warden, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) defeated Lin, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles to account for the Bobcats other singles victory. Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and Brett Francis (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned an 8-5 victory over Ricardo Cardona and Teddy Margules at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats return to action Oct. 29, when they take part in the Connecticut State Championships at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
