HAMDEN. Conn. - Four Bobcats earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated Holy Cross, 7-0, Sunday afternoon on the Quinnipiac Indoor Tennis Courts. Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.), James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.), Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) each won at singles and doubles to push the Bobcats to 2-3 on the year. Holy Cross falls to 2-9 with the loss.
Weeden paired with Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) to defeat Matt Wierzel and Ryan Sullivan, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, before making quick work of Wierzel, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.
Kwei and Lazerowich breezed past Chris Brosnan and Connor McCann, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. Kwei then blanked Chris Das, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Lazerowich got past Brosnan, 6-3, 6-3.
Morgenstern and Ben Shapiro (Katonah, N.Y.) defeated Das and Scot Brownell, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Morgenstern then beat McCann, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and Dillon Kraus (Bayside, N.Y.) also registered singles wins. Nelson defeated Sullivan, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3, while Kraus got past Brownell, 6-4, 6-2.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, March 6, when they play host to the University of Hartford. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
