NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach Mike Quitko will be honored as a special guest and presented with an award at the New Haven Open on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Connecticut Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University. Fellow Quinnipiac alumni, parents, faculty and staff will come together for Quinnipiac Night and celebrate Coach Q’s career accomplishments.
After adding 18 wins to his career total last season, Coach Quitko now has 485 victories and remains just 15 shy of the 500 milestone. He currently sits atop the Quinnipiac record-book in career wins and ranks second among New England Division I tennis coaches.
Along with all those wins come several accolades for Coach Q, including 10 Northeast Conference Titles (six women, four men), six NEC Coach of the Year awards and several NCAA Regional Coach of the Year honors. Furthermore, he has guided over 100 student-athletes to an All-NEC Conference Team, including three Player of the Year and six Rookie of the Year recipients.
The Banquet will be hosted at 7 p.m. at the quarterfinals of the tournament. The women's-only WTA event is part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series and will be held August 17-25, 2012 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. The New Haven Open is prominently featured domestically on ESPN2 and also broadcast around the world.
The 2012 field is highlighted by four of the world’s top-10 players: No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska, No. 8 Caroline Wozniacki, No. 9 Sara Errani, and No. 10 Marion Bartoli. The 2011 tournament featured World No. 1, at the time, and now four-time defending champion Caroline Wozniacki, and three Grand Slam champions Li Na, Francesca Schiavone and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Fans interested in attending the event can enjoy a night a great tennis at a discounted rate. Tickets must be purchased by noon on August 10 through Quinnipiac's registration page in order to receive the discount and will be mailed to your home address. All sales are final.
