Men's Tennis Posts 17-7 Mark At UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team posted a 17-7 mark on the final day of the University of Connecticut Invitational in Storrs, Conn. Sophomore Micah Bailey (Miami, Fla.) and J.C. Petrini (Stanford, Conn.) posted 2-0 marks in singles play, while also combining for a 2-0 mark in doubles play. As a team, Quinnipiac was 12-4 in singles play, and 5-3 in doubles play.

Bailey defeated Hartford's Edgardo Ureta, 6-4, 6-1, in the first round before downing Sacred Heart's John Bogdanovich, 6-2, 7-6, in the second round. Petrini beat Bryant's Daniel Cournoyer, 6-0, 6-1, and UConn's Ryan Carr, 6-1, 6-3. Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) were also undefeated in singles play. James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and Alexander Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) both posted 1-1 marks in singles and doubles play.

Weeden defeated Bryant's Zachary Morris, 6-1, 6-4, in the first round before defeating Hartford's Marco Neves, 6-3, 7-5. Morgenstern knocked off Boston University's Alex Hallenbeck, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8, in the first round before defeating Hartford's Eric Floum, 6-1, 6-1. Ben Shapiro (Katonah, N.Y.) defeated Hartford's Joel de los Santos, 6-2, 6-1, before also defeating UConn's Matt Burns, 5-7, 6-3, 10-3. Lazerowich lost in the first round, 6-4, 7-6, to UConn's Jacob Spreyer, but bounced back in the second round to defeat Hartford's Alex Holdstein, 6-7, 2-3 retired. Kwei was victorious in the first round, defeating SHU's Jacob Miller, but lost in the second round to Bryant's Dana Parziale.
 
In doubles, Bailey and Petrini defeated Sacred Heart's Bogdanovich and John Lopresti and before rallying against Boston University's Jesse Frieder and Emilio Teran, 8-7 (10-8). Weeden and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) combined to defeated Hartford's Holdstein and Aneil Bhalla, 8-5, before losing to Bryant's Morris and Peter Hart Callahan, 8-6. Kwei and Lazerowich started doubles play with an 8-6 win against Sacared Heart's Chadd Sullo and Luke Bagi but lost their second match to Boston University's Friedman and Michael Koppelman. Shapiro and Morgenstern also lost to UConn's Burns and Carr, 8-5, before defeating Hartford's de los Santos and Bogdan Nedelcu, 8-5.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Oct. 1-2 when it travels to West Long Branch, N.J. to compete in the Monmouth Invitational.
