HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshmen John Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) each advanced to the semifinals of their respective flights on Saturday, as the men's tennis team put together another strong showing at the Quinnipiac Invitational.

In Flight B singles' play, Petrini defeated Villanova's Michael Rosengren (6-4, 6-3) in the first round before knocking off Mike Kennelly of Hartford (6-2, 6-2). Tomorrow in the semifinals, he will take on Bryant's Juan Gonzalez, who defeated his opponents from Sacred Heart and the University of Connecticut.

Fellow classmate, Ambrosio, who also fared well in the singles' segment, defeated Matt Colonnese of Villanova (6-2, 7-5) and Richard Sipala of Bryant (6-2, 6-3). His two victories granted him a pass to the semifinals of Flight B and a match tomorrow against Ryan Carr of Connecticut.

In other singles action, three members of the squad were victorious in their opening matches, but fell short in the second round. Senior James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) knocked off Mark Miller of Villanova (6-2, 6-4) in Flight A, junior Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, Mass.) defeated Edgardo Ureta of Hartford (6-2, 6-5) in Flight B action and junior Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) defeated Josh Palmer of Connecticut (6-4, 6-2) in Flight D.

The Bobcats also sent two pairings out in the semifinals of the doubles' tournaments.
