NEC Coaches' Poll Press Release

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Northeast Conference, as selected by the NEC's coaches and announced today by the league office. The Bobcats earned four first-place votes, narrowly edging Fairleigh Dickinson in the census. Quinnipiac's quest for a 2011 NCAA Tournament bid was stopped just short in the NEC Championship match last season.

Just behind the Bobcats in the poll was Fairleigh Dickinson, who also claimed four first-place votes, followed by Monmouth, who grabbed the final first-place nod. Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (Pa.) rounded out the top five, while Robert Morris, Mount St. Mary's, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Wagner completed the bottom half.

Three-time NEC Coach of the Year Mike Quitko will once-again guide the Bobcats, as they set out for their fifth NEC Championship in 2012. The Bobcats have been participants in the NEC Championship in six of the last eight years and will look to earn back the trophy they last won in 2010. 2011 All-NEC Second Team selections Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) will lead the Bobcats. Weeden claimed 19 victories in 2010-11, good for second in the NEC ranks, while Morgenstern was 5-2 against the rest of the conference at #6 singles en route to a 13-win campaign. James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) was a 2010 All-NEC First Team singles selection, an accolade to add to his three All-NEC First Team Doubles honors. Kwei and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) posted a perfect 7-0 record in doubles play at the #2 spot in 2010-11.

The 2012 Northeast Conference Championship will once-again be played at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ from April 20-22. The tourney winner will earn the right to represent the NEC in the NCAA Tournament come May. Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 26 when it hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) at 9 a.m. on Quinnipiac's Mt. Carmel Campus in Hamden, Conn.
