HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) won his 12th match of the season on Saturday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was defeated by Bryant University, 5-2, at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast Conference. The Bulldogs improve to 9-4, 2-0 in the league.
Bryant opened the match with a strong showing in the doubles' segment, as the Bulldogs took two of three from the hosting Bobcats. Morgenstern and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, Mass.) collected the lone triumph for QU when they defeated Peter Hart Callahan and Zachary Morris, 8-5, in No. 2. Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) nearly earned the result needed to get the point, but fell short in No. 1, 9-7.
The Bulldogs carried their momentum into singles' competition, where won four of the six matches. Morgenstern put the Bobcats on the scoreboard with a straight-set triumph over Callahan in No. 3 and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) outlasted Ernesto Arguello, 7-6 (5-7), 6-2, (10-4), in No. 4. However, Bryant sealed the victory with individual wins in the final two showdowns.
Bryant is back in action against UConn tomorrow afternoon. First serve is set for 12 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
