HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, announced on Tuesday, March 26, 2012 by the league office. Ambrosio performed very well in two matches last week, helping the Bobcats to a non-conference win against Boston University.
"Eric continues to have a very impressive freshman campaign for us," said Head Coach Mike Quitko. "He has demonstrated great poise on for a first-year athlete and gets better and better every time he steps out onto the court. We anticipate similar contributions from him for the rest of the season."
Ambrosio won a pair of No. 4 singles matches last week for Quinnipiac, outlasting both opponents in three sets. He knocked off Boston University's Emilio Teran, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-2, on Thursday, then defeated Bryant's Ernesto Arguello, 6-7 (5), 6-2, (10-4), two days later. Ambrosio also picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles against BU along with his partner sophomore Chris Nelson.
Ambrosio has won his last three matches in singles play and four out of his last five in doubles action. He has an 8-10 record at singles and is 9-9 in doubles competition.
