HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University Men's Tennis Head Coach Mike Quitko has been looking forward to the spring season since the conclusion of the Connecticut Championships and with good reason. The Bobcats open 2013 competition on Saturday afternoon (12 p.m.) against Yale at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.
The Bobcats boast an experienced and talented lineup that should be in the mix for a Northeast Conference title and a bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. "The spring season is going to be fun for us," said Coach Quitko, who is in his 22nd year at the helm of the program. "We have great leadership and are really talented from top to bottom. In addition, our newcomers have already proven that they will provide an immediate impact when we enter NEC play."
This past fall, the Bobcats were led by sophomore Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) who compiled a 17-10 overall record between singles and doubles competition. Barbero was 10-5 in singles which included a Flight "A" title at the UConn Invitational. He will likely serve as Quinnipiac's ace to begin the spring season.
As a team, the Bobcats won 59 percent of their match-ups in the fall season. Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) finished with 17 wins, Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) added 14 apiece and chimed in with 14.
After their showdown with the Bulldogs, the Bobcats return to action next week with a pair of matches in Providence, R.I. Quinnipiac will take on Binghamton and Brown on the campus of Brown University.
