Men’s Tennis Tabbed Third In NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by the league office. The new-look Bobcats are coming off of great fall season and in prime position to garner a fifth NEC title this spring.

The Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson finished first in the poll and collected five first place votes. However, just one vote separated the Knights from newcomer Bryant, who is now eligible to compete in the NEC Championship after completing its five-year NCAA reclassification.  The Bulldogs earned three first place tallies, while Quinnipiac was awarded the remaining two first place votes and third place in the poll.

Monmouth University, last season's runner-up, and Sacred Heart rounded out the top five spots. Mount St. Mary's was next in the sixth slot, followed by Saint Francis University, Robert Morris, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner to close out the poll.

The Bobcats have their sights set on the program's fifth NEC crown and first since 2010. The 2012 NEC semifinalists also return Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.), who is off to a strong start in his senior season with 20 victories to date and newcomer Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina), who will serve as Quinnipiac's ace this spring.

The Bobcats return to the courts on February 16 against Boston University in Massachusetts. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
