Superb Effort In Singles Sends Men’s Tennis Past UConn, 5-2

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2013 season on Friday afternoon, as the Bobcats took a 5-2 decision over intrastate rival UConn at the East Hartford Racquetball Club. Senior Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) added two more wins to his collegiate resume and provided a big lift in the win.

Quinnipiac, now 2-4 overall, needed to fight back after surrendering an early lead to the hosting Huskies. The Bobcats mustered just one win in the doubles portion, falling behind 1-0 after the segment. Lane and his partner Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) collected the lone triumph, as the duo picked up their third victory this season when paired together. They defeated Josh Palmer and Andrew Ginzberg, 8-6, at No. 3.

The singles portion of the event told a completely different story, as Quinnipiac captured five of the six matches, including four wins in three sets. Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) defeated Ryan Carr, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2; Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) topped Mark HoSang, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4, at No. 3; Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) outlasted Andrew Ginzberg, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (5), at No. 4; Lane defeated Zac McEntee, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 5; and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) earned the fifth and final point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
