Men’s Tennis Suffers 6-1 Setback to Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) collected his 72nd win on Sunday afternoon, but it was Bryant University who prevailed, 6-1, in a Northeast Conference showdown between the Bobcats and the Bulldogs at the Bryant Tennis Complex in Smithfield, R.I.

Bryant captured a 1-0 lead after sweeping through the doubles segment of the match. The Bobcats put up good fights at No. 2 and No. 3, where the pairings of Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Lane nearly overcame their opponents. Decided by two points or fewer in both matches, Bryant came through with an 8-6 win at No. 2 and an 8-7 triumph at No. 3.

In singles play, the Bobcats surrendered every match in straight sets, with the exception of Lane at No. 5 and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) at No. 4. Lane overcame an early defeat and battled back to claim the second set, 6-3, along with the tie-break, 5-3. Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) took his opponent to three sets, but fell short to Ernesto Arguello, 3-6, 7-5 (3).

The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, March 27 with a home match against Villanova. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Mount Carmel Campus.
