Men’s Tennis Tipped by Villanova, 6-1

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team fell short in a non-conference clash with BIG EAST foe Villanova, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Sophomore John Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) collected the lone point for the Bobcats with his 24th career win at No. 6 singles.

Villanova, now 5-6 on the season, jumped out in front with a come-from-behind win in doubles for a 1-0 lead. Quinnipiac held an advantage late into No. 1 and No. 2, but let precious points slip away. Villanova's Kelly Donaldson and Thomas O'Brien edged Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.), 9-7, at No. 1; while Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) and Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) fell short 8-6 in the tie-break at No. 2. Nova's Ryan Peyton and Chris Seitz made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 win over Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Petrini.

Quinnipiac looked to bounce back in singles, needing four points to take the match. Unfortunately, the Wildcats claimed wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 in straight sets to clinch the victory.

The Bobcats took the other three segments to three sets, but couldn't prevail down the stretch. Petrini managed to battled back from a one-set deficit, 7-5, 6-3, to win at No. 6, but Ambrosio and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) couldn't hang on in the final sets of their matches.
