Men's Tennis Earns Northeast Conference Win at Sacred Heart, 6-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team backed a superb effort in doubles with five points in singles to claim a 6-1 victory over Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart at the Pioneer Tennis Courts in Fairfield, Conn. With the win, the Bobcats climbed back to the .500 mark in NEC play (2-2) and picked up career win No. 498 for head coach Mike Quitko – now just two away from his 500th victory.
In search of its first doubles' point of the 2013 season, Quinnipiac nabbed all three matches for the 1-0 advantage. Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) improved to 2-2 when paired together with an 8-6 win at No. 1; Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) outlasted Luka Bagi and Matt Dean, 8-6, at No. 2; and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) completed the sweep with a convincing 8-3 decision at No. 3.
Quinnipiac witnessed similar success in the individual segment, as the Bobcats took five of the six matches. Barbero earned his 24th career win by defeating James Barnhart, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1; Ambrosio won his third straight match, 7-6 (3), 6-0, at No. 3; Roser picked up his 11th career win over Brian Power, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 4; Lane upped his conference-leading winning percentage at No. 5 singles to .750 with a win at No. 5; and Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) nabbed career win No. 75 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over John Lopresti at No. 6.

With the loss, Sacred Heart fell to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in Northeast Conference play. Quinnipiac is 6-5 in their last 11 meetings, but has surrendered a 2-1 advantage in favor of the Pioneers in NEC Tournament play.
Quinnipiac resumes Northeast Conference play on Monday, April 8, when the Bobcats travel down to West Long Branch, N.J. for a clash with Monmouth University. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. at the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex.
