HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) of the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was recently named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Ambrosio helped the Bobcats to a 2-1 record last week while posting a perfect 6-0 mark during the three matches.
Ambrosio is red-hot heading into the postseason, having won seven straight singles matches for the Bobcats, who are seeded third in the NEC Tournament. Last week, he recorded three wins at the #3 flight, beginning with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Fordham's Jan Krouham. Over the weekend, Ambrosio also knocked off Saint Francis U's Lawson Barter, 6-3, 6-1, and Hofstra's Adrien Bailly, 6-3, 7-6 (6). In #3 doubles, the Lloyd Harbor, NY product paired up with Chris Nelson for an 8-5 triumph against Fordham.
With his big week, Ambrosio crossed the 50-win plateau in his QU career and has racked up 53 victories in two years. He ranks 17th on the Quinnipiac Division I Career wins list and is 15th in the Division I Career Singles wins.
Quinnipiac is back in action Friday, April 19 with the 2013 Northeast Conference Tournament. The Bobcats will take on the sixth-seeded Monmouth Hawks in the quarterfinals at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
