WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team was nearly flawless on Friday afternoon as the Bobcats cruised past Monmouth University, 4-0, in the NEC Tournament Quarterfinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. With the win, the third-seeded Bobcats advance to the semifinals for the 11th straight year where they will take on the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University.
For the fifth time in six matches, Quinnipiac (9-11) won the doubles point to snare an early 1-0 lead. Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) cruised past Jason Rothstein and Jason Prezant, 8-1, at No. 2; and Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) solidified the point with an 8-4 win at No. 3. For Ambrosio and Nelson, it was their sixth straight win when paired together.
Needing just three points to clinch the match, Quinnipiac carried its momentum into singles play. Arguably playing the best tennis of any player in the tournament, Ambrosio won his eighth straight match at No. 3 by defeating Prezant, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Alex Lazerowich (Stratham, N.H.) surrendered just one point in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6; while Roser earned the fourth and final Bobcat point with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4. Fahoum Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.) were also both winning in their respective flights.
