Men’s Tennis Prepares for 2014 Spring Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's tennis team enjoyed some time off from competition, but is now ready to resume action and work towards its team goal – the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats have 17 games scheduled over the next four months and will look to secure a spot in the 2014 MAAC Championships at the end of the season.

"We are very excited to get back into the swing of things for the 2014 spring season," said head coach Mike Quitko, who has over 500 wins under his belt in 22 seasons of work. "Our guys had a great fall season and made tremendous strides in preparing themselves for MAAC competition. The MAAC poses several new challenges, and we are looking forward to acclimating ourselves with our new opposition."

Quinnipiac's slate features matches against 12 non-conference opponents and five against MAAC institutions. Eight of those contests will be played on Mount Carmel Campus at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The Bobcats' spring season gets underway with the first of three February matches on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Brown University. The following weekend, Quinnipiac takes a two-day road trip to Saint Joseph's (2/7) and Delaware (2/8) for a pair of night games.

After that, Quinnipiac makes its annual spring trip to Florida. The Bobcats are scheduled to play South Dakota St. (3/10) Creighton (3/11) and Valparaiso (3/13) – before returning home to resume MAAC play against Fairfield (3/20). Quinnipiac's three of its next four matches will take place at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts - Bryant (3/22), Stony Brook (3/25), Boston University (3/28) and Temple (3/30). The match against the Seawolves will be played in Stony Brook, N.Y.

The home stretch in April features six matches with four of them coming against MAAC affiliates. Quinnipiac hosts Sacred Heart (4/4), Saint Peter's (4/5), Marist (4/8), Niagara (4/12) and Monmouth (4/18) while mixing in a trip to Hartford on April 10th. The Bobcats will celebrate Senior Day against the Hawks on April 18th.

The 2014 MAAC Championships are scheduled from Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will receive bids into the single-elimination tournament.
