HAMDEN, Conn. - The junior tandem of Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) will serve as the Quinnipiac men's tennis team spring captains as announced by 23rd-year head coach Mike Quitko. Ambrosio and Barbero each have two years of eligibility remaining and will look to guide the Bobcats back to the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm very pleased to announce that Eric and Sebastian will serve as the captains of the men's tennis team," said Quitko. "They are natural leaders who have always had the respect of their teammates and can be relied upon for support and guidance. I look forward to their senior season and hope that they experience tremendous success within the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)."
Ambrosio, a 2013 No. 3 Doubles Second Team selection, has blossomed into one of the region's best players this year. He is a remarkable 18-3 in singles and has nine additional wins at doubles for a total of 27 victories this year. He has 83 wins during his time at Quinnipiac, and is tied with Andrew Chen '07 for seventh on the Bobcats' Division I career wins list. He has 48 wins at singles, which also ties Chen for fourth in career DI wins at singles.
Barbero stands right behind Ambrosio in second place for most wins among active Bobcat players. Barbero, who transferred to Quinnipiac after one year with Saint Peter's, has 67 career wins. He has registered double-digit wins at singles in each of his three seasons which includes an 11-3 mark this year. Barbero posted career highs of 14 wins at singles and 13 wins at doubles in the 2012-13 season. Barbero also has a pair of seasons with double-digit win totals at doubles.
Quinnipiac enjoys about a month off before resuming competition in their annual trip to Florida. The Bobcats are scheduled to play South Dakota St. (3/10) Creighton (3/11) and Valparaiso (3/13) – before returning home to continue MAAC play against Fairfield (3/20).
