Men’s Tennis Falls to Valparaiso in Spring Break Finale, 7-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – Quinnipiac University ran into a scorching hot Valparaiso men's tennis team on Thursday, and dropped the final non-conference match of its annual Spring Break trip to Florida. Despite valiant efforts at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, the Bobcats fell by a final count of 7-0. 

Valparaiso extended its winning streak to six straight and improved to 13-3 overall with the victory. The Bobcats fell to 5-5 on the season. They have dropped five of their last six matches after a 4-0 start to the season.

VALPO took the doubles point by way of victories at No. 1 and No. 2, but struggled in the third match. Kei Ezaka (Ojai, Calif.) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, N.Y.) put forth a great match at No. 3, and claimed the upset. Ezaka and Haraguchi edged Eric Honert and Lucas Waak, 7-2, in the tie-break for the 8-7 triumph.

Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, N.J.) had the most success during the singles segment. Ambrosio battled back to force a third set with a victory in the second frame (6-1), but VALPO's Dave Bacalla hung on to claim the final set, 6-1. Roser dropped his match, 6-1, 7-6, after falling short in the second-set tie-break, 7-4.

The Bobcats return to action on Thursday, March 20 when they resume MAAC play at Fairfield University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Fairfield University Tennis Courts.
