Men’s Tennis Drops First MAAC Match of the Season to Fairfield, 6-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) scored his 85th career win on Thursday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Fairfield at the University's tennis courts in Fairfield, Conn.
Ambrosio's win at No. 2 singles was also his 50th career win at singles while at Quinnipiac. He fell behind early after dropping the first set, 5-7, but battled back to force a third set with a 6-2 win in the second frame. Ambrosio put the match away with a 10-7 triumph in the tie-breaker. He topped George Tioutine in the match, and earned his 20th singles' win of the season.
Other than that, Quinnipiac came up empty on the afternoon. Quinnipiac's other victory came at No. 2 doubles, where Kei Ezaka (Ojai, Calif.) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, N.Y.) defeated Tioutine and Dennis Zlobinsky, 8-5.
The loss drops Quinnipiac below the .500 mark (5-6) for the first time this season. It was also the Bobcats' first conference loss since joining the MAAC (1-1). Fairfield improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
