EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's cross country sophomore Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vt.) earned the first MAAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award. The two-time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week a year ago picked up the first MAAC Weekly cross country award in Quinnipiac's inaugural season in the MAAC.
The freshman phenom a year ago, Copley stormed out of the gates with a time of 18:58.71 in the 6k event to pick up his first career victory. The 2012 All-Northeast Conference runner became the first Bobcat to win an event since 2008, when Richard Klauber won the Northeast Conference Championship. His blazing time was nearly a minute faster than his result from the 2012 Stony Brook Invitational when he finished in 19:49.87. Copley set the pace throughout and bested a group of 50 total competitors. He maintained the lead throughout and was able to sprint home to victory as he finished more than 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Copley combined with Monmouth's Amanda Eller, who placed first in the 2013 Monmouth Cross Country Kick-Off, to recap the first MAAC Cross Country Runner of the Week awards.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday from the Bryant University Invitational at Smithfield, R.I.
