Alex Alba Named Northeast Conference Rookie Of The Year
Freshman utility player Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) of the Quinnipiac University softball team has been name the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced at the NEC Banquet this evening. Sophomore RHP Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named one of two pitchers on the All-Conference First Team, while Alba and senior outfielder Heather Maffeo (Milton, Mass.) earned spots on the Second Team. This is the second consecutive season a member of the Bobcats earned the Rookie of the Year honors, as Schwartzburg collected the award last season.

No. 3 Softball Eliminated From Northeast Conference Tournament Following 3-0 Loss To Robert Morris
The No. 3 Quinnipiac softball team was eliminated from the 2010 Northeast Conference Softball Tournament following a 6-0 loss to No. 2 Monmouth in their first game of the day, and a 3-0 loss to No. 4 Robert Morris in their second game of the day. Quinnipiac finishes the year at 28-24 overall.

Softball Takes On Monmouth In First Round Of NEC Championships Friday
The Quinnipiac University softball team will travel to New Jersey this weekend to compete in the 2010 Northeast Conference Softball Championships, hosted by Long Island University on the Fairleigh Dickinson Campus in Teaneck. This is the first postseason appearance for the Bobcats since 2007 and they will face off against Monmouth University in the first round on Friday, May 14. The two teams are scheduled for a 12:15 p.m. start at FDU Softball Field. In their last contest, the Bobcats closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson on May 8.

Alba And Schwartzburg Sweep Akadema/Northeast Conference Weekly Awards
Freshman shortstop Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) and sophomore RHP Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) have each earned weekly awards from the Northeast Conference, as announced by the league office this afternoon. Alba was named this week's Akadema/Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week while Schwartzburg earns Pitcher of the Week honors. This is the first time Alba has been recognized by the NEC for a weekly award, and it's the third time for Schwartzburg this season.

Softball Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson In Final Regular-Season Doubleheader
Freshman Alex Alba drove in six runs for the Quinnipiac University softball team as they swept Fairleigh Dickinson in their final regular-season doubleheader this evening. Alba drove in three runs in each game, as the Bobcats earned a 7-4 victory in game one, followed by a 3-1 win in game two. Sophomore RHP Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned both wins on the day as the Bobcats conclude the season with a 26-22 overall record with a 15-5 mark in the Northeast Conference.

The Quinnipiac University softball team's doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 8 at 1 p.m. has been pushed back to start at 4 p.m. due to forecasted inclement weather in the morning. The Northeast Conference doubleheader is the final regular-season contest for the Bobcats this season and will be played at the FDU Field in Teaneck, N.J. In their last match-up, the Bobcats swept Sacred Heart in their final home game of the season on May 2.

Softball Sweeps Sacred Heart In Senior Day Doubleheader
Freshman Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) drove in the game-winning run in game two of a conference doubleheader this afternoon as the Quinnipiac University softball team swept Sacred Heart University this afternoon in their final home event of the season. Senior Kelly Wall hit a three-run homer to lead the Bobcats to the 5-4 victory in game two following a 6-2 win in game one. With the wins, Quinnipiac's overall record improves to 26-22 on the season with a 13-5 record in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart drops to 23-26 on the year with a 10-8 record in the NEC with the losses.

Softball Splits Doubleheader With Central Connecticut
Senior Heather Maffeo (Milton, Mass.) hit her first homerun of the 2010 season leading the Quinnipiac University softball team to a 5-4 victory in game two of a Northeast Conference doubleheader against Central Connecticut State this afternoon. The Bobcats split the doubleheader as they dropped the first game against the Blue Devils, 6-2. Quinnipiac's record now stands at 24-22 on the year with an 11-5 record in the Northeast Conference. Central Connecticut now posts a 19-27 record in 2010 with a 7-9 record in league action.

University of Massachusetts-Amherst's starting pitcher Sara Plourde threw a no-hitter against the Quinnipiac University softball team this evening, striking out eight and walking two in the 6-0 victory. Bobcats' freshmen Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) and Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) drew the walks on the day as the team's overall record drops to 21-21 on the year. With the win, the No. 22-ranked Minutewomen's record improves to 28-7 this season.

Sophomore RHP Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) broke the Quinnipiac University softball season-strikeout record this afternoon as she fanned eight batters in a doubleheader with Mount St. Mary's. Schwartzburg fanned eight batters on the day to boost her season total to 214 strikeouts which breaks the record she set last season when she struck out 206. The Bobcats dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 7-3, and posted a 5-6 victory in game two. Seniors Kelly Wall (Westport, Conn.) and Kim Le Bel (Quincy, Mass.) each homered on the day as Quinnipiac's record improves to 21-20 on the year with a 8-4 mark in Northeast Conference play.

Quinnipiac will first take on tournament-host Stony Brook at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. start with Yale on Friday. Saturday will see contests against Fairfield at 10 a.m. and Holy Cross at 4 p.m. The Bobcats will play their final game of the tournament on Sunday when they take on Yale for the second time at 12 p.m. All games will be played at the Stony Brook Softball Field.

Senior third baseman Kelly Wall (Westport, Conn.) hit a two-run double as the Quinnipiac University softball team defeated Jacksonville State, 2-0, in the final day of the Under Armour Showcase. Sophomore pitcher Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) threw the complete game for the Bobcats as their record improves to 6-10 on the year.

Softball's First Day Of Under Armour Showcase Cancelled
The first day of competition in the Under Armour Showcase for the Quinnipiac University softball team has been cancelled due to inclement weather in Clearwater, Fla. The Bobcats were scheduled to play two games this morning against Central Michigan and Pittsburgh at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tournament host, the University of South Florida, will release a new schedule on their Tournament Central homepage listed above by 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Softball Plays In Under Armour Showcase This Weekend
The Quinnipiac University softball team will head back to the University of South Florida to compete in the Under Armour Showcase this weekend, the second consecutive tournament hosted by the Bulls. The Bobcats will start the weekend with two games on Friday, Mar. 12, starting the day against Central Michigan at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. start against Pittsburgh. In its last outing, Quinnipiac split a doubleheader with Toledo on Mar. 9.

Softball Splits Doubleheader With Toledo
The Quinnipiac University softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Toledo this afternoon, winning the first game, 2-1, and dropping the second game, 12-8. The Bobcats played through nine innings in the first game with the Rockets, with senior Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) knocking in the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning. With the split, Quinnipiac's record stands at 4-9 on the season.

Softball Plays Doubleheader Against Toledo On Tuesday
The Quinnipiac University softball team will face off against the University of Toledo in a doubleheader Tuesday morning at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The Bobcats and the Rockets are both in Florida for the Under Armor Showcase, hosted by the University of South Florida, this weekend and will play in an unaffiliated doubleheader at USF's facility. The games are currently scheduled for a 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. start. In their last outing, Quinnipiac fell to South Florida, 1-0, in the final game of the Under Armor Invitational.

Alex Murray Named Akadema/Northeast Conference Player Of The Week
Sophomore infielder Alex Murray (Milford, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University softball team has been named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Player of the Week after her performance at the Norfolk State Invitational over the weekend. Murray batted .500 in four games in the tournament, compiling six hits, five runs and six RBI. This is the first conference award for Murray in her career, and the team's first of the 2010 season.

Pitchers Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) and Jaimie Iaquinto (Dix Hills, N.Y.) split time from the circle, striking out a collective four batters on the day. With the loss, the Bobcats' record drops to 0-3 on the year while the Spartans improve to 2-3 this season.

Softball Travels To Virginia This Weekend For Norfolk State Invitational
The Quinnipiac University softball team hits the road this weekend to compete in the Norfolk State Invitational in Norfolk, Va. The Bobcats will play in four games in the tournament which includes three other participants: Norfolk State University, Iona College and Rider University. Quinnipiac will start the tournament against tournament-host Norfolk State on Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by games against Iona and Rider on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. The Bobcats will play in one final game on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. against Rider. In its last outing, Quinnipiac fell to Longwood University, 6-5, on Feb. 21.

The Quinnipiac University softball team will play two games tomorrow afternoon against Fordham University and Morehead State University. The games were rescheduled from the Longwood University Lancer Leadoff Classic, which was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. The Bobcats will play at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. The Bobcats are scheduled to start their first game against Morehead State at 11 a.m., followed by the game against Fordham at 1 p.m.

The Quinnipiac University softball team's tournament, the Lancer Leadoff Classic, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Lancer field, has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions following recent winter storms. The team will first take the field on Friday, Feb. 26 against tournament-host, Norfolk State, at 7 p.m.

The Quinnipiac University softball team was picked to finish fifth of 11 teams in the 2009 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office today announced. The Bobcats finished in sixth last season after posting an 18-30 overall record and an 8-10 mark in conference play.

Softball Signs Four To National Letters Of Intent
Quinnipiac University softball Head Coach Germaine Fairchild has announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent for the 2010-11 academic year. Emily O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.), Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.), Katie Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2010.

The team held their annual banquet on Saturday, Oct. 17, and named Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) the team's Most Valuable Player, Christine Bourdeau (Seymour, Conn.) the Offensive Player of the Year, Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.) the Defensive Player of the Year, Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) the Most Improved Player and Kelly Wall (Westport, Conn.) the Spirit of the Bobcat award.

Six members of the Quinnipiac University softball team were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete team for the 2008-09 academic year. Seniors Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.), Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.), Christine Bourdeau (Seymour, Conn.), Angela Casella (Oceanside, N.Y.), Kelly Wall (Westport, Conn.) and junior Joelle Jacobsen (Flemington, N.J.) all were eligible to earn the All-America Scholar-Athlete title.

The Quinnipiac University softball team hosted their annual alumni game on Oct. 10 at the Quinnipiac Softball Field. The Bobcats returned 20 alumni for the game and post-game barbeque. The current team defeated the alumni squad, 16-0, in seven innings of play.
