STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Senior Kelly Wall (Westport, Conn.) and freshman Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) each tallied two RBI as the Quinnipiac University softball team earned two wins in the second day of the Stony Brook Invitational. Alba also picked up a victory from the circle, defeating Fairfield, 4-3, in the first game of the day. The Bobcats also defeated Holy Cross, 1-0, on the day as their record improves to 10-12 on the season.

In game one, Fairfield scored their three runs in the top of the third and fourth innings to earn a 3-0 lead midway through the game. Senior shortstop Katie Trifiolis scored the Stags' first run in the top of the third when she advanced on a fielder's choice play by Dani Griswold, followed by a single by Meghan Borst. Trifiolis scored unearned on a passed ball in the next play, while Griswold followed two plays later on a single by Kristina Lingo. Trifiolis drove in Fairfield's third run in the top of the fourth when she scored Jessica Stand from second on a double to left center.

The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with two earned and two unearned runs to secure the victory. Senior Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) earned the RBI on the first run scored when she allowed freshman Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) to score from third on first baseman error. Wall drove in Angela Casella (Oceanside, N.Y.) two plays later when she singled through the right side to pull within one run of the Stags. Alba smacked a two-run single in the following at bat to score two more Quinnipiac runners, finalizing the score at 4-3.

Alba earned her second win of the season against Fairfield, pitching her second complete game of the year. The freshman allowed six hits and earned two runs, while striking out one batter on the day.

The Bobcats continued the sixth inning spark when they scored their lone run of the second game in the top of the sixth against Holy Cross. Bellush started the inning with a single into center field, and advanced to second on a throwing error. Senior Heather Maffeo (Milton, Mass.) subbed in to pinch-run for Bellush and was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.). In the following play, Wall stepped to the plate and singled down the left field line to score Maffeo from third for the 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded her sixth win of the season against the Crusaders. Schwartzburg pitched the complete game, allowing just one hit in 22 batters faced while striking out ten.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they play in the final game of the Stony Brook Invitational. Quinnipiac will take on Yale for the second time in the tournament, playing to a 12 p.m. start.
