Softball Announces 2011-12 Captains
Quinnipiac softball head coach Germaine Fairchild announced a trio of captains for the upcoming 2012 season. Seniors Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Christy Cabrera (Reno, Nevada) have each been selected to lead the Bobcats in 2011-12.

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac softball junior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team, as announced by the NFCA on Thursday, May 19.

Paolucci And Duffy Named All-Tournment As NEC Softball Championship Game Is Cancelled
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Due to inclement weather, the remainder of the 2011 Northeast Conference Softball Tournament has been cancelled. The Championship game between the No. 3 seed Quinnipiac and second-seeded Sacred Heart has been cancelled after it was suspended in the fourth inning yesterday due to poor weather conditions and darkness. Sacred Heart is declared the 2011 NEC Champion and earns a NCAA Tournament bid based on its 2-0 tournament record. The Bobcats end their season at 32-26 overall. Additionally, freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) and junior Mina Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) were named to the 2011 All-Tournament team.

Softball Advances To NEC Championship With 4-3 Win Against Robert Morris
Moon Township, Pa. - Junior Mina Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) hit the game-winning home run as the Quinnipiac softball team defeated top-seeded Robert Morris, 4-3, in the second elimination game of the 2011 Northeast Conference Softball Championships on Saturday, May 14. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 32-26 on the year and advance to the NEC Championship game, where they will take on Sacred Heart this evening at 7 p.m.

Softball Splits Pair Of Games In First Day Of NEC Championships
Moon Township, Pa. - The Quinnipiac softball team lost to the second-seeded Sacred Heart Pioneers, 4-3, and defeated No. 4 Central Connecticut State, 8-5, in the first day of the 2011 Northeast Conference Championships. The Bobcats improve to 31-26 overall and continue NEC Tournament play on Saturday, May 14 at 11:45 a.m. against either Robert Morris or Sacred Heart at the North Athletic Complex.

Softball's Heather Schwartzburg Named 2011 NEC Pitcher Of The Year
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Quinnipiac softball junior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year, while junior Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) picked up the Golden Glove award and freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) received the Rookie of the Year honor, as announced at the NEC Banquet on Thursday, May 12. In addition, Schwartzburg and Paolucci were both selected to the All-Conference first team, while junior second baseman Jacqueline Ristow (Seal Beach, Calif.) earned a spot on the All-NEC second team.

Schwartzburg shares this season's final weekly award with Central Connecticut State's Elizabeth Montemurro.

Quinnipiac And Hartford Softball Programs Raise $2,000 At Strike Out Cancer Event
Hamden, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University and University of Hartford softball programs joined forces on April 20 to raise $2,000 for the Susan G. Komen Fund at their "Strike Out Cancer" event. The Susan G. Komen Fund benefits breast cancer research. The event was part of Quinnipiac's "Positive Play" initiative, designed to encourage community involvement by Quinnipiac's student-athletes.

Paolucci And Schwartzburg Turn In Record-Breaking Performances In 2-0 Win Against Fairfield
HAMDEN, Conn. - Freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) broke the Quinnipiac single-season home run record and Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) broke the Quinnipiac single-season wins record and strikeout record as the Quinnipiac softball team defeated Fairfield, 2-0, at the Quinnipiac Softball Field in Hamden, Conn. Schwartzburg's single-season strikeout total is also a Northeast Conference single-season record. The Bobcats' win pushes their record to 30-24, giving Quinnipiac its second 30-win season in the program's Division I history and fourth all-time. Fairfield drops to 26-19 overall.

Schwartzburg Breaks Program Strikeout Record As Softball Sweeps Saint Francis (Pa.) In NEC Doubleheader
Indiana, Pa. - Junior right-handed pitcher Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) broke the Quinnipiac University softball season-strikeout record as she fanned six batters in a Northeast Conference doubleheader against Saint Francis (Pa.). Schwartzburg struck out 15 batters on the day to increase her season total to 265 strikeouts, which breaks the record she set last season when she posted 255 strikeouts as a sophomore. The Bobcats won the first outing of the twinbill, 2-0, and recorded an 11-3 victory in five innings of play in game two. Quinnipiac improves to 29-24 on the year and with a 13-7 mark in conference play, while the Red Flash drop to 10-34 overall and to 2-12 in the NEC.

Quinnipiac Softball Competes At Under Armour Showcase This Weekend
The Quinnipiac University softball team (7-6) returns to the University of South Florida to participate in the Under Armour Showcase this weekend, March 11-13. The Bobcats will play six games at the tournament and face the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. John's, Saint Joseph's, Ball State, Maryland, and the Netherlands National Team. Quinnipiac enters the showcase after going 3-2 at USF's Under Armour Invitational last weekend. The Bobcats defeated Maine, 1-0, in their most recent outing.

Softball Junior Heather Schwartzburg Named Akadema/NEC Pitcher of the Week
Quinnipiac University softball junior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 7. Schwartzburg picks up her first NEC award of the 2011 season after winning two games for the Bobcats against Loyola Marymount and Florida International at the University of South Florida's Under Armour Invitational this weekend.

Quinnipiac Softball Plays At Longwood Classic This Weekend
The Quinnipiac University softball team returns to Longwood University to participate in the Longwood Classic in Farmville, Va. this weekend. The Bobcats play in a pair of games on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27. On Saturday, Quinnipiac takes on Bucknell at 11 a.m. and Longwood at 3 p.m. It then plays Stony Brook at 9 a.m. and Bucknell at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Bobcats participated in Longwood's Lancer Leadoff last weekend, where the team went 1-3.

The Quinnipiac University softball team has been selected to finish fourth in the 2011 Northeast Conference Softball Coaches' #$%^Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The Bobcats made a Northeast Conference #$%^Tournament appearance in 2010 after posting an overall record of 28-24 and 15-5 in NEC play. Long Island was chosen as the #$%^preseason favorite with nine first-place votes, while Monmouth was selected to finish second in the Coaches Poll, receiving #$%^two first-place tallies.

Eight Softball Players Recognized By National Fastpitch Coaches Association For Academic Achievements
Eight members of the Quinnipiac women's softball team were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently as it announced the 2009-10 All-Academic Scholar Athletes. In order to qualify, student-athletes must have acquired a 3.5 grade point average for the year.

Softball Names 2010 Award Winners At Annual Banquet
The Quinnipiac University softball program held its annual banquet on Saturday, Oct. 23 in honor of the 2009-10 season. Quinnipiac Softball Head Coach Germaine Fairchild announced the 2010 season awards at the banquet. Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player, Angela Casella (Oceanside, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) was named the Offensive Player of the Year (Sylmar, Calif.), Heather Maffeo (Milton, Mass.) was named the Most Improved Player of the Year, and Jaimie Iaquinto (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was the recipient of the Spirit of the Bobcat Award.

Quinnipiac softball junior transfer Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named 2010 Diamond Sports National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Catcher of the Year, as decided by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Diamond Sports. Quinnipiac sophomore Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) has been named to the Jewish Sports Review 2010 Women's Softball All-America Team. Schwartzburg continues to build upon her impressive resume, as she was previously named to the Akadema/NEC 2010 All-Conference First Team after collecting Akadema/NEC Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman in 2009.
