HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac softball senior captain Joelle Jacobsen (Flemington, N.J.) was recently selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
"There is no more deserving student-athlete of this recognition than Joelle," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Germaine Fairchild. "She has consistently personified commitment to community service, academic achievement and athletic determination from her first day as a Bobcat to the present. We are so proud that she is the first Bobcat softball student-athlete to be named Academic All-District."
Jacobsen has contributed 16 hits, 14 runs scored and 15 RBI this season for the Bobcats. The senior first baseman has excelled on the softball field and in the classroom as she's accumulated a 3.8 GPA, studying biomedical sciences. Jacobsen has been a leader in the community as a Quinnipiac Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) representative. She was the co-chair of two events during the fall semester, including the Thanksgiving food donation and the Holiday gift giving events in 2010. Jacobsen received the Outstanding Junior Award from Quinnipiac in 2010 and is currently a member of the Phi Sigma Biology Honor Society.
The Bobcats return to action when they compete as the No. 3 seed in the 2011 Northeast Conference Softball Championships at Robert Morris on May 13-14.
