In the Bobcats' first contest of the day, they edged the Army Black Knights, a team that previously defeated Quinnipiac 5-3, in the first day of the tournament. Quinnipiac's sophomore Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) went 2-4 and had two runs in the game, while freshman catcher Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) and senior outfielder Kim Brzezinski (Tinley Park, Ill.) each added one hit and one run. In addition, Paolucci, second baseman Jacqueline Ristow (Seal Beach, Calif.), and shortstop Christy Cabrera (Reno, Nev.), each earned a RBI against the Black Knights.
Freshman pitcher, Emily O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.), earned her first collegiate win against Army. O'Keefe allowed three runs on six hits, striking out two batters, in seven innings.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead early, scoring in the first inning, as Salgado stole home. Army answered with a run in the second inning, as the Black Knights' Reanna Johnson singled up the middle, allowing Angela Deger to score. In the third inning, Salgado scored another run for the Bobcats on a throwing error by Army's catcher.
In the bottom of the fourth, Army's Alexis AuBuchon doubled to right center, earning her first RBI of the game. Quinnipiac followed, scoring three runs to take a 5-2 lead going into the sixth inning. Army came back to tie the game at 5-5 leading into the seventh. In the last inning of the contest, the Bobcats' Paolucci hit her first career homerun, giving the Bobcats the 6-5 win.
In its final game of the tournament, Quinnipiac lost to host Longwood, 4-1. Senior captain Joelle Jacobsen (Flemington, N.J.) collected the Bobcats' only run of the game, while she and senior Julia Sini (Elgin, Tex.) each contributed one hit against the Lancers. Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) took her second loss of the season, striking out four batters in six innings for the Bobcats.
Longwood went ahead 2-0 in the third inning, as Brittany Matthews and Kami Nuckols each earned a run. In the top of the fifth, Quinnipiac first baseman Jacobsen, singled up the middle. Jacobsen would score on a Sini double to left field, to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard. The Lancers scored their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Quinnipiac travels back to Longwood University next weekend to participate in the Lancer Invitational in Farmville, Va. The Bobcats play on Saturday, Feb. 26 against Bucknell at 11 a.m. and Longwood at 3 p.m. Quinnipiac then faces Stony Brook and Bucknell, for the second time, on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
