HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University softball junior Heather
Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named the
Akadema/Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by
the league office on Monday, March 7. Schwartzburg picks up her
first NEC award of the 2011 season after winning two games for the
Bobcats against Loyola Marymount and Florida International at the
University of South Florida's Under Armour Invitational this
weekend.
Schwartzburg appeared in three games, starting in two of them, at the Invitational. The junior pitched 16 and 1/3 innings, striking out 26 batters overall. In total she recorded a 0.43 ERA. The right-handed pitcher only allowed two runs and seven hits.
As a sophomore, Schwartzburg received the conference's Pitcher of the Week title three times during the 2010 season. She also set a Quinnipiac Division I record with 255 strikeouts on the year. Schwartzburg was also named the NEC's Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman in 2009.
The Bobcats return to action at the University of South Florida when they compete in the Under Armour Showcase on March 11-13. Quinnipiac will play the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. John's, St. Joe's, Ball State, Maryland and the Netherlands National Team at the tournament.
