Plays BU
The Quinnipiac University softball team (8-10) will take
on Boston University (6-5) on Wednesday, March 16 at noon in
Clearwater, Fla. Both teams participated at the USF Under Armour
Showcase last weekend, where the Bobcats went 1-4 and the Terriers
went 3-2. In its most recent outing, Quinnipiac defeated
the Netherlands National Team, 7-6, in an exhibition game that
lasted 10 innings on Sunday, March 13.
Scouting Boston University
Boston University (6-5) will play Colorado State on Tuesday, March
15 in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. before it takes on
Quinnipiac. The Terriers recently went 3-2 at the Under Armour
Showcase with wins against La Salle, 8-6, and two Northeast
Conference schools, CCSU, 2-1, and Robert Morris, 2-0. Boston
University dropped two games against Long Island, 8-6, and Central
Michigan, 2-1, at the tournament. The Terriers are led by April
Setterlund, who is currently batting .400 and has drove in six runs
and contributed 10 hits and eight runs scored this season. BU
freshman pitcher Holli Floetker has won three games from the
circle, while sophomore Whitney Tuthill won two games for the
Terriers in their most recent outings at the Under Armour
Showcase.
Under Armour Showcase
Last weekend, the Bobcats competed at the Under Armour Showcase in
Clearwater, Fla. Quinnipiac lost to Wisconsin Green Bay, 7-2, St.
John's, 4-3, St. Joseph's, 8-5, and Maryland, 4-1, at the
tournament. The Bobcats' only win at the tournament was a 4-0
shutout against Ball State. Junior pitcher Heather
Schwartzburg picked up her fourth victory against the
Cardinals, as she struck out 11 batters in seven innings for
Quinnipiac. Christy
Cabrera went 2-4 and led the Bobcats with two runs scored and
an RBI.
Defeating The Dutch
The Bobcats defeated the Netherlands National Team, 7-6, in 10
innings in an exhibition game on Sunday, March 13. In the bottom of
the 10th, Quinnipiac's Alex
Alba singled down the right-field line, driving in Jacqueline
Ristow for the game-winning run.
Cabrera's
First-Class
Junior shortstop Christy
Cabrera started in each of the Bobcats' five games last
weekend. She went 6-17 (.353) and led Quinnipiac, driving in three
runs and scoring three runs. Cabrera currently leads the team in
RBI (10).
Alba's Awesome
Infielder Alex
Alba also hit .353 and went 6-17 at the Under Armour Showcase.
Alba picked up three RBI and hit a triple. She also led the Bobcats
with 15 assists over the weekend. Alba is currently second on the
team with a .306 batting average.
Reaching The
100 Mark
Senior captain Joelle
Jacobsen collected her 100th putout of the season at
the Under Armour Showcase. Jacobsen currently leads the team with
131 putouts this season, already beating the 72 putouts she
collected in 2010. She tallied 40 putouts at the USF Under Armour
Showcase last weekend.
Stolen
Bases
Sophomore Lauren
Salgado leads Quinnipiac with seven stolen bases this year and
has succeeded on all her steal attempts.
NEC Weekly Award
The Bobcats' Heather
Schwartzburg picked up her first Northeast Conference honor of
the 2011 season as she was named the Akadema/NEC Pitcher of the
Week on March 7. Schwartzburg appeared in three games, starting in
two of them, for Quinnipiac at the Under Armour Invitational. The
junior right-handed pitcher won two games against Loyola Marymount
and Florida International. In 16 and 1/3 innings, she struck out 26
batters and only allowed two hits and seven runs, recording a 0.43
ERA overall.

Leaders
The Bobcats are led
by two-time All-Northeast Conference pitcher Heather
Schwartzburg, who earned the 2009 NEC Rookie of the Year title
and a First Team selection in 2010. Alex
Alba was named the NEC's Rookie of the Year in 2010. Senior
captain Joelle
Jacobsen will lead the Bobcats this season, alongside 12
returning letterwinners, five freshman and two junior transfers
from Iowa Lakes Community College in Ashley
Heiberger and Christy
Cabrera.
Preseason
Picks
The Bobcats were selected to finish fourth in the 2011
Northeast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, after making an
appearance in the NEC Tournament in 2010. The Bobcats posted a
29-24 overall record and a 15-5 mark in conference play last
year.

Ahead For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac returns to
action when it plays at the University of South Florida's The Game
Tournament on March 18-20. The Bobcats will face North Florida,
Winthrop, Dartmouth, Florida Gulf Coast and Buffalo.
