Quinnipiac Softball Defeats Boston University, 2-1

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Quinnipiac University softball team defeated Boston University, 2-1, in a game held in Clearwater, Fla. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 9-10, while the Terriors drop to 8-6 on the year.

Quinnipiac junior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) struck-out 14 batters on her way to her team-leading fifth win of the 2011 season. Schwartzburg scattered five hits over seven innings.

Boston University scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. The Terriers' lead-off batter reached first base after she was hit by a pitch, followed by a double to left-center field. Chelsea Kehr grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Jayme Mask to score on a fielder's choice.

Quinnipiac answered with two runs in the top of the second when Jacqueline Ristow's (Seal Beach, Calif.) two-run single scored Bridget Figmin (Stratford, Conn.) and Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Ristow led the Bobcats as she went 1-3, driving in two runs, while Figmic went 2-3 with a run scored.

The Bobcats return to action at the University of South Florida The Game Tournament this weekend, March 18-20. Quinnipiac plays North Florida and Winthrop on Friday, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. The Bobcats then face Dartmouth and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 3:00 and 5:30 p.m., before taking on Buffalo on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
