HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Katie Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac softball team was named Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 7.
Alfiere made two appearances and one start last week, recording a 1-0 record from within the circle in the Bobcats’ 4-0 shutout against America East opponent Stony Brook on May 1. The sophomore pitched a team-leading 13 and 2.3 scoreless innings as she earned four strikeouts. Alfiere also scattered nine hits while holding opponent batters to .191 from the plate. She also contributed two hits, one run and a RBI as the designated player in two outings. Alfiere now stands at 7-2 on the year and posts the team’s second best ERA (2.07).
Quinnipiac returns to action as the number two seed in the 2012 NEC Softball Championships, which will take place this weekend at No. 1 Robert Morris University. The Bobcats will first take on third-seeded LIU Brooklyn on Thursday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. All tournament games will be held at the North Athletic Complex in Moon Township, Pa.
