HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week, for the second time this season, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 18.
Schwartzburg picks up her second NEC accolade of the 2012 season after posting a 2-0 record last week. The starting pitcher helped the Bobcats win two of their last four contests over Spring Break play, including a 3-2 win at San Diego on March 14 and 3-1 victory over CSU Bakersfield on March 16. She saw 14 innings, struck out 13 batters and held opponents to a .245 batting average, while compiling a 1.5 ERA in two outings.
Schwartzburg is currently 7-1 on the year with a team-leading 0.82 ERA. She also ranks first on the team in strikeouts (64) and opponent batting average (.176) in a total of 10 appearances.
The Mission Viejo, Calif. native also received the NEC weekly honor on March 5, 2012.
The Bobcats return to action when they travel to Harvard University for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 22. Action begins at 3 p.m.
