HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Mina Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) of the Quinnipiac University softball team was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Duffy earns her first weekly NEC award of the 2012 season after going four-for-seven against the defending NEC Champions Sacred Heart on Sunday, April 1 in the Bobcats’ home opener. Duffy homered in both games of the conference doubleheader, leading Quinnipiac to a sweep of the Pioneers, 12-7 and 5-4. Her first homer of the afternoon was a part of the Bobcats NCAA record tying four consecutive homeruns in game one.
The senior started in the outfield in Quinnipiac’s three contests last week, including the NEC twinbill and a non-conference game at Massachusetts on March 28 where the Bobcats lost, 1-0. Overall, Duffy boasted a team-high 1.111 slugging percentage while leading the Bobcats with five RBI. She also posted a .444 on-base percentage.
On Monday, April 2, Duffy was also honored by College Sports Madness as the NEC Player of the Week.
Duffy currently ranks first on the team in RBI (19) and homeruns (5), while ranking second in total bases (35), runs (11) and slugging percentage (.530).
The Bobcats return to action when they host Fairfield in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, April 4 at the QU Softball Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
