Softball Volunteers at Connecticut Special Olympics Softball Competition and Tournament
NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team volunteered at the Connecticut Special Olympics Softball Competition and Tournament held at the Connecticut Sports Complex in North Branford on Saturday, Sep. 8.
"Our players were really excited to return to the Special Olympics Softball event," Quinnipiac head coach Germaine Fairchild said. "They have gained so much from their experiences in each of the three years our program has participated, and most importantly they received a priceless gift in that unique, positive feeling people get when they give back to the community and to those who really appreciate the time and support."
This marks the third consecutive year the Bobcats have volunteered at the event. The student-athletes helped in all facets of the event and were able to provide a big lift to a worthy cause. The players performed duties such as score keeping, umpiring, field supervision, dugout support, and the distribution of awards.
"The day was great," Quinnipiac senior third baseman Bridget Figmic said. "It was so much fun to see all the athletes smile playing the same game my teammates and I love…it really made my day!"
The Bobcats will be in Fairfield, Conn. this upcoming weekend as they take part in a pair of offseason matchups against Dowling at 11:30 a.m. and Stony Brook at 1:30 p.m. both on Saturday, Sep. 29.
