GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Bobcats combined some stellar pitching with clutch hitting down the stretch to help win a 1-0 matchup against Drexel on Sunday from the UNCG Spartan Classic. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Lindsley (Narragansett, R.I.) tossed a complete game one-hitter in just her second career start to pick up the first victory of her career. Quinnipiac fell to the host UNCG in the second game of the doubleheader, 9-1 in five innings, to leave Greensboro with a 1-3 record in four games at the tournament.

Junior Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) came through for Lindsley and the Bobcats as she drilled a run-scoring single up the middle with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to push the game's first run across against Drexel. The Bobcats couldn't convert three prime opportunities before the seventh, leaving the bases loaded twice and with two runners on once. Alba, however, made the most of her one opportunity and Lindsley came through with a one-two-three seventh inning to seal her first career victory.

The first chance for the Bobcats came in the second as senior Kortney Kesses (Woodbridge, Conn.) and freshman Dani Edmands (Northborough, Mass.) walked and senior Bridget Figmic (Stratford, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Drexel pitcher Shelby Taylor then regained her composure and notched a strikeout to end the threat.

Lindsley meanwhile was dominating early, pitching a perfect game through the first 3.1 innings before allowing a single in the fourth, the only hit for the Dragons in the game. The Bobcats again threatened in the fifth with two runners on and one out but Taylor again came up big inducing a fielder's choice and line out to end the inning.

The Dragons put a scare in the Bobcats with two runners on in both the fifth and sixth frame but Lindsley forced a fly out and line out in the fifth and then notched a strikeout in the sixth to keep the game scoreless.

After the Bobcats failed to push a run across with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, senior Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) reached first on a single. The speedy centerfielder stole second and with two outs, Alba came through with a clutch RBI single up the middle to score the deciding run. Lindsley then finished the job with two fly outs and a strike out in the seventh to win the Bobcats' first game of the season in dramatic fashion.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Spartans defeated Quinnipiac, 9-1, in five innings. The Bobcats kept the score close as they pushed a run across in the second inning. Sophomore Nikki Barba (San Diego, Calif.) pushed her streak to 10 games reaching base safely with an infield single. She then stole second and was knocked in by Figmic with an RBI single up the middle to even the score at 1-1.

UNCG then reeled off eight unanswered runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to pick up the victory. Junior Katie Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) took the loss surrendering six runs in four innings.

The Bobcats will next head to Tampa, Fla. for a five-game weekend set against five different teams including Loyola-Chicago, Ill.-Chicago, Providence, Loyola Marymount and Kent St.
