CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Quinnipiac softball team suffered a 7-6 loss to St. Joseph's on Saturday before a pair of five inning defeats to Central Michigan, 9-1, and Southern Illinois (Edwardsville), 12-2, on Sunday to wrap up their five-game set at the USF Under Armour Showcase at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Bobcats drop to 2-12 on the season after their weekend set.

The box score for the St. Joseph's contest is still unavailable at this time but the Bobcats were led on Sunday by sophomore catcher Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) as she reached base safely in all four plate appearances. Paolucci slugged her 17th career home run against Central Michigan for the Bobcats' only hit against the Chippewas to go along with a hit-by-pitch. She followed with a 2-for-2 afternoon against the Cougars of SIUE including an RBI as she finished with a 3-for-3 afternoon with one home run and two RBI. Freshman outfielder Courtney Solt (Boyertown, Pa.) also chipped in with a 1-for-3 outing against the Cougars with two runs scored as she ups her season total to five.

The Mid-American Conference's Central Michigan dominated Quinnipiac on Sunday due in large part to their pitching effort led by Morgan Yuncker. The Bobcats managed only one hit (Paolucci's home run) and one walk in five innings against Yuncker. The Chippewas also got to Bobcat starter sophomore Hannah Lindsley (Narragansett, R.I.) early with two runs each in the first and third innings.

After one more run for Central Michigan in the top of the fourth, Paolucci broke up the no-hit bid with a deep home run to center field for her second dinger of the season and 17th of her career. This however was the lone bright spot for the Bobcats as the Chippewas got to freshman pitcher Sydney Robey (Glenmoore, Pa.) early and often in the fifth inning as they struck for four runs on five hits. Quinnipiac managed just one walk in the bottom of the fifth as the game ended with a 9-1 Chippewas victory.

The second game on Sunday went much like the first as SIUE controlled the action throughout on the away to a 12-2 victory. The Cougars came out firing on all cylinders as they pushed nine runs across after just the first two frames. The Bobcats had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first after Solt reached on an error and sophomore Brittany Cyr (Southington, Conn.) followed with a single. After Paolucci reached on an infield single, Quinnipiac had the bases juiced with one out but could only manage one run on a Cougar's fielder's choice out to score Solt from third.

The Bobcats struck again in the third as Solt legged out an infield single to start the inning. After two consecutive outs, Paolucci came through with a two-out base knock to right field that scored Solt from second and made it a 9-2 game. But the Cougars proved too much as they scored three more in the fourth and closed out the victory in five innings, 12-2.

The Bobcats will look to regroup as they had three more games during the week starting with Maine on Tuesday. They follow with a marquee matchup against 2012 NCAA College World Series finalist South Florida on Tuesday and finish up with a game against UT-Chattanooga on Wednesday from Tampa, Fla.
