HAMDEN, Conn. – Newly hired interim head coach Jill Karwoski has recently announced the Quinnipiac softball 2013 fall schedule. The Bobcats will take on several familiar foes including two in-state rivals and QU Softball Field will host the annual City Series pitting Yale, University of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State and Quinnipiac against one another from the home field of the Bobcats.
The fall slate will kick off on Saturday as the Bobcats head up to Storrs, Conn. to Burrill Family Field at the University of Connecticut for a pair of games. Their opener will be against Providence with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm and the Bobcats will then follow against the host Huskies at 3:30 pm, both played on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Recent and long-time graduates will done the blue and gold once again on Saturday, Sept. 28 when the Bobcats host the annual Alumni Game starting at 12:00 pm from the QU Softball Field.
A lengthy bus trip awaits the Bobcats the following day as they head up to Amherst, Mass. to take on the Minutewomen from UMass Softball Complex. The two teams will play a doubleheader with the first game scheduled to begin at 12 pm on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The final road trip of the fall schedule will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 when Quinnipiac will hit the road for a pair of games at the University of Hartford in the Hawks' Invitational. The tournament also features AIC as the Bobcats will start with a game against the host Hawks at 10:00 am and then follow with AIC at 12:00 pm.
Quinnipiac's fall schedule concludes with the annual City Series as the Bobcats will welcome Yale, New Haven and Southern Connecticut State to QU Softball Field on Saturday, Oct. 12. Games will begin at 10:00 am ending with the championship game around 2:00 pm.
The Bobcats will be returning three All-Conference performers in junior catcher Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.), junior second baseman Nikki Barba (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore left fielder Courtney Solt (Boyertown, Pa.).
Paolucci also earned an NFCA All-Region Team distinction following her impressive season at the plate in which she finished with a .322 average to go along with 12 home runs and a program-record 44 RBI. Barba finished the season on the All-Conference First Team as an infielder after breaking out last season with a .331 batting average and team-high .421 on-base percentage. Solt meanwhile earned All-Conference Second Team honors after breaking the single-season program record for hits as she piled up 66 in her rookie season at the plate. She finished the year batting .375 with 37 runs scored and a conference-high five triples.
Several other key returners for the Bobcats this season will be senior Katie Alfiere (P), juniors Brittney Cyr (RF) and Hannah Lindsley (P) and sophomores Nicole Gubellini (P), Molly Jarrett (P), Abby Johnson (OF) and Sydney Robey (P).
