Women's Basketball Picked Second In NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the league office today announced. Two-time defending NEC Tournament Champion Robert Morris and Quinnipiac both received four first-place votes. The Bobcats are coming off of a 25-6 record and an NEC Co-Regular-Season Championship in 2007-08.
Erin Kerner (Erie, Pa.) was named to her third consecutive All-NEC Preseason Team after finishing last season as the conference's third-leading scorer (17.1 ppg). Her shooting prowess and ability have produced an NEC Rookie of the Year selection, as well as appearances on the All-NEC First and Second Teams. The senior guard was fourth in the conference in three-pointers made per game (2.1), sixth in assists per game (3.41) and second in free-throw percentage (84.3) in 2007-08.
Sacred Heart received three first-place votes, good for third. Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson were selected to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. Conference tournament runner-up Long Island was picked to finish sixth. Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis (Pa.), St. Francis (N.Y.), Wagner and Central Connecticut round out the 11-team field.
The Bobcats begin the 2008-09 season Friday, Nov. 14 at Stony Brook. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
