HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University women's basketball senior Erin Kerner (Erie, Pa.) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week the league office today announced. This is the second time this season that Kerner has been recognized as the league's top performer in a week's span. Kerner shares this week's honor with Jennifer Bender of Monmouth. Kerner earned the honor for the fifth time in her career after leading the Bobcats to wins at Long Island, 74-59, and against Fairleigh Dickinson, 74-59. This season, she is fourth in the conference in scoring (17.1 ppg). She shot .560 percent from the floor over the two-game span.
In the win against the Blackbirds, Kerner led the Bobcats with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting. It was the eighth time this season that the guard reached the 20-point mark in a game. Kerner connected on all four of her free-throw attempts, while recording three assists and two steals in the game. The win helped Quinnipiac secure a berth in the NEC Tournament for the eighth consecutive season.
Against Fairleigh Dickinson, Kerner finished with 16 points as the Bobcats collected their ninth win of the season, guaranteeing at least a .500 record for the eighth year in a row. Finishing with a season-high seven assists and two blocks, Kerner added four steals and four rebounds as the team won its 16th game of the season.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. when they host Central Connecticut State at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. Quinnipiac's Department of Athletics will honor Kerner and the rest of the senior class prior to the start of the game.
