Erin Kerner Named Choice Hotels NEC Co-Player Of The Week
HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University women's basketball senior Erin Kerner (Erie, Pa.) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office today announced. This is the third time this season and the seventh time in her career that Kerner has been honored as the conference's top player. Sharing the award with Jennifer Bender of Monmouth last week, the senior guard shares it with Mount St. Mary's Brianna Gauthier this week. Kerner averaged 23.5 points per game over the Bobcats' two wins this weekend against Central Connecticut and Wagner. She ends the regular season third in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game.
Against the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon, Kerner scored a game-high 23 points and added five assists and four steals. She shot 7-of-17 from the floor en route to the Bobcats' 17th-straight against CCSU and a sweep of the season series. She added four rebounds in the game and had the best free-throw shooting performance of the year for Quinnipiac as she connected on all seven of her attempts from the charity stripe.
In the Bobcats' final regular-season game against Wagner Monday night, Kerner again finished with a game high in points as she scored 24 in just over 35 minutes of play. She shot 9-of-17 from the floor, including three three-point field goals in the contest. She concluded the week with a 3.5-to-1 assist-turnover ratio, recording seven assists and just two turnovers as the Bobcats ended the season on a four-game winning streak. The 47 points over the weekend were the highest two-game total for the senior guard since scoring 47 in the first two games of the season.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 7, when it takes on Monmouth in the quarterfinals of the NEC Tournament. The Bobcats earned the No. 4 seed in the conference's postseason tournament and will play the No. 5 Hawks at Sacred Heart's Pitt Center no earlier than 2:30 p.m. The teams split the season series, with each team winning a game on its home floor.
