Women’s Basketball Announces 2011-12 Schedule
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University Women’s Basketball Head Coach Tricia Fabbri has once again prepared a grueling schedule for the 2011-12 season. The Bobcats will play 14 home games, including a pair of home contests against Atlantic 10 opponents, Massachusetts and St. Joseph’s. Intrastate foes Fairfield, Yale and Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut will also visit the TD Bank Sports Center in the upcoming year.
The docket gets started with a matinee Friday, Nov. 11 against James Madison. The 4 p.m. start marks the first-ever meeting between the Bobcats and the Dukes. Following a road tilt at Holy Cross on Nov. 16, the Bobcats return home to face Fabbri’s alma mater, Fairfield. The Bobcats fell to the Stags in last season’s opener, marking just the second time Fabbri had faced her former team as head coach of the Bobcats.
Upon returning to the east coast, the Bobcats will open a three-game home stand. Up first is a Nov. 29 pairing with Massachusetts, which defeated the Bobcats in the 2009 Brown Bear Classic Championship Game in the only prior meeting between the two schools. Quinnipiac then opens Northeast Conference play against Bryant on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sacred Heart on Monday, Dec. 5.
The Bobcats challenge Rhode Island on Dec. 10 in Kingston, R.I., before returning home to face Yale, following first-semester final exams on Dec. 20. Following a week off for the holidays, the Bobcats close 2011 at Patriot League foes American and Army on Dec. 28 and 30, respectively.
Quinnipiac rounds out the non-conference docket with a Jan. 3 meeting with St. Joseph’s at the TD Bank Sports Center. A Jan. 7 pairing at St. Francis (N.Y.) gets conference play restarted in earnest, before the Bobcats welcome Long Island to the TD Bank Sports Center on Jan. 9.
Following four road contests at Robert Morris, Saint Francis (Pa.), Bryant and Sacred Heart, the Bobcats welcome Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s to Hamden on Jan. 28 and 30. The Saturday contest against Wagner will be played as part of Linda Wooster Girls and Women in Sports Day.
After Saturday and Monday contests at Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson, Quinnipiac will play its first NEC Rivalry Week series against Central Connecticut, after two years against Sacred Heart. The first game will be played Saturday, Feb. 11, in New Britain, before the Blue Devils make the return trip to Hamden on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Following their final road contest of the regular season on Feb. 18 at Long Island, the Bobcats play three straight home games to close out the conference schedule. St. Francis (N.Y.) visits the TD Bank Sports Center on Feb. 20, before Saint Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris come to Hamden on Feb. 25 and 27, respectively.
The Northeast Conference Tournament will once again be played at higher seeds. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 3, with the semifinals and championship following on Tuesday, March 6 and Sunday, March 11, respectively.
