Women's Basketball Walks With American Heart Association
WESTPORT, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team walked at the 2011 Fairfield County Start! Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to “building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke,” on Oct. 15 at Sherwood Island Park in Westport, Conn.
Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s movement to get America active. The Bobcats participated at the event in honor of women’s basketball junior Shelby Sferra’s (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) father, who passed away two years ago. Sferra started a team called “Team Stephen Plays with Heart” and raised over $600 for the cause.
“It really meant a lot that I was able to raise over $600 for such a good cause,” said Sferra. “It meant a great deal that my teammates came out and supported me.”
Quinnipiac opens the 2011-12 season when it hosts James Madison on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
