HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior guard Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team was named Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week, for the second consecutive week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Barron garners her second NEC weekly accolade of the 2011-12 season after leading the Bobcats to back-to-back conference wins on the road for the second straight week. The 5-7 guard compiled 36 points across 42 minutes of play as she helped QU improve to 6-2 in the NEC as the Bobcats won by 37 points at Bryant, 84-47, and first-place Sacred Heart, 71-34, last week.
Overall, the Springfield, Mass. native averaged a team-high 18 points and three assists per game in the Bobcats’ last two outings. Barron matched a career-high 26 points as she went 10-for-20 in the team’s win over the unbeaten Sacred Heart Pioneers on Monday night. Barron also went 4-for-8 from three-point range at SHU, while registering 10 points at Bryant on Saturday. Barron shot 75 percent from the charity stripe (6-for-8) throughout the two-game tilt.
Barron continues to lead the nation with 4.7 steals per game, while ranking second in scoring amongst conference opponents with 17.9 points per contest.
Quinnipiac, currently 14-5 on the year and second in the NEC standings at 6-2, returns home this weekend after playing four games on the road. The Bobcats continue league play as they face Wagner on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Noon at the TD Bank Sports Center, before hosting Mount St. Mary’s on Monday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
